Taiwan Pre-CB Ended
The Taiwan pre-CB has officially ended this morning, or last night for most of us. Overall, apart from the some quite serious bugs reported, my experience is:
- Connection is quite smooth although for the last few days it was laggy near supposed-to-be-crowded places although I didn't see many people/ships there. The waiting time for the client could be shorter. Example: When I want to use a skill, I need to wait for a few seconds for the menu to appear.
- Better ID control is needed. Is it a Taiwan culture to name your characters with strange symbols and phrases? Not sure if anything could be done about that. But controlling questionnable IDs is a must.
- How do people who want to team up locate each other? The major towns are so big, with quite a few gateways to the port. I've only seen a handful people shouting wanting to team up. Not sure how the players could better coordinate. Maybe during the CB I could check the search function and see how effective wil it be.

I get similar lag from the U.S. to the Japanese servers. Is your menu lag about 5-6 seconds per click at the worst?
Japanese players have symbols as well. It is one of the drawbacks to UTF8 support, which is a good thing (makes it multi-lingual actually). Though original names can be copied. You just need to put a symbol after your name if the name has already been taken. Or perhaps use katakana, hiragana, etc for the name. Is it really bad? I'm not sure. Since I use Kanji for European characters it can be said I'm not really in the spirit of the game either. World of Warcraft has a character name policy [http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/?id=agm01722p].
There is a search function for players. In the "communication" button at the top then cilck on the "検索" menu option will be for finding players.
Also, in your settings you should be able to (if it is in the Taiwan version yet) to set an icon to tell people you are:
a) selling
b) buying
c) want to make friends
d) privacy
e) OK to participate in mock battles.
There should be an appeal commment.
- menu clicks
So far I'm around 3 to 4 seconds. It's just that for the first few days it's much faster, maybe more people connecting at the last few days. I'll see how it turns out in the CB.
- names
At least in the Japanese servers, people still have some words for name. I just wanna roll my eyes when I see total symbols for names. I think Softstar didn't enforce naming control coz it's CB.
- search function
Yeah, I know it but didn't really use it. Mostly coz I doubt whether people will turn on the appropriate button, apart from selling that is.
btw, did you get my comment from the bar journal below?
I usually put an appeal comment like "discovery questS", and then turn on the "make friendS" option. I do meet some people to run quests with. I actually ran into one of them the other day on the Egyptian Coast where I was running a couple of treasure maps. He was foraging for Ginger (and sold it to me for 1D a piece for some like a 1000:1 profit :P~~).
Just found your comment among the junks. =-="
Since I always on my trade icon, I didn't really check the other icons. :D I'll try adding comments to my profile and see.
