RMT: The Classification

This is a post in my series of My Take on Real Money Trading.

Real money trading (RMT) is a very broad subject. Most of the times players say they hate RMT. But do they truly hate RMT, or actually they just hate the side effects of RMT? Are these both the same? Do they actually walk their talk?

For RMT transactions to occur, there need to be a seller and a buyer. The goods could be currency, items or characters. For the seller, there is the amateur and the professional. For buyers, there is the casual and the hardcore. Do you hate the buyers more or the sellers more?

On the sellers side, I think our opinions for them would be more or less the same, i.e. the hate level is more or less the same. If we particularly dislike some RMT sellers, usually that is because of some of their behaviour or the side effects they bring.

When we think of RMT, it is the past bad experiences that trigger our hate bombs. So we assume all RMT is the same and no grey area exists. This issue could get very complex. The sellers and their side effects definitely needs more studying. So we'll leave it for another post. :P

For the buyers, what do you think of the people who buy currency and items? What about buying a high-level character? I'm sure most people despite the latter more. If people brag that they got some cool items or are millionaires because they bought it with cash, that would also trigger off our hate bombs.

So for now, we could conclude that, we hate players who buy characters and/or brag that they bought their status with money more than those who just buy currency and items and/or are silent about it.

You would ask, why all the classifications? Well, resources are finite. If in the end we could pinpoint exactly where we hate RMT the most, wouldn't Koei be able to focus their effort at those areas first if they choose to do so? We should all agree that RMT could not be wipe out clean, then it might as well if we request Koei to wipe out the parts that we hate the most.
