Softstar Starts Moving!
Original post on 2005-10-15 11:54pm:
Thanks to the alert from a Gamer Taiwan forumer, Softstar Taiwan has added GVO to their JoyPark menu choice.

The link points to no where yet. But at least it's a indication that things might start moving again after a long hibernation.
Update on 2005-10-19 1:40pm :
The choice has disappeared from the menu. Now, isn't there something familiar with that?
Update 2:
Hooray! Finally Softstar has released the closed beta news!
The closed beta will start on 15 November 2005. The software and the Traditional Chinese version of the benchmark program will be available for download starting tomorrow. No news yet on how to acquire a testing account. [via Gamer]

Hey, i was browsing for GVO sites today, and this Chinese one popped up. Not sure if you have seen it before. The library section is useful.
I knew its existance. It was managed by some Chinese people with most of the content mapped from the Korean site (that's what their promoter said). But I can't browse China-hosted sites properly over here so I couldn't take a closer look.
Is it cultural to pull hoaxes? I know some Americans who would get their kicks by slipping a couple of hints in just to see everyone's reaction. Dangling the carrot infront of a horse's nose while you're riding it.
Motivation or Cruelty?
I don't know why I help out so much. If I wasn't being pushed to edit & correct the manual, then I'd probably would finish it in a year. Now I'm thinking of so many different things. Yet I stayed up til 1:40am & slept through my alarm (Luckily since I'm always 30 minutes early for work I showed up just 3minutes late & it didn't matter).
Here's an interesting story about last night's events in GVO:
I had a quest from Amsterdam to explore the Baltic island called "Island of the Gods". It was a nice 4 or 5 star quest.
As I rounded Denmark to get to Lubeck to talk to the Harbormaster there I got spawned on by 2 Flutes. Unfortunately, 2 Flutes are much better than 1 Galliote with only 88 hp (now 87). I tried to run, but when running you are more susceptible to critical damage. Thus in 2 hits (15+73 damage) I was "sunk".
I sat there for awhile pondering my next move. I had a full hold, 83k on me, and I knew if I automatically went to port I would be back a week of work. So I waited. Soon a philanthropist by the name of "Mister Lion" saw my poor boat & offered a lift. We chatted after we got back to port. The amusing thing was "Mister Lion" and "Foxgirl" have very similar names (Yes, I'm not playing my soldier Saru, but an explorer with the small girl model).
狐子 and 獅子兄ちゃん. Now even though 獅子兄ちゃん chose his own name I found it amusing. His character was a big male with blonde hair, and next to mine it was amazing. It was almost as if I his name was really 獅子, and my little girl character was calling him "Shishi-nichan" in a cute way. Just a charming tale of 2-like named characters finding each other. ^^
On with the story! I met up with a fellow English player & we headed from Lubeck towards the Baltic Sea, a PvP area. We luckily slipped past several mean NPC boats, completed my quest, and then landed in Stockholm. We were going to head back when we saw social gathering in the bar.
Yes, we stopped in Stockholm to play Poker. ^^ The addition of Poker in GVO, like in Puzzle Pirates, really changes the game. Instead of Quests, Trading, or Pirate hunting you can sit in a bar, say you're playing Poker, and people will come & play. We chatted, joked about how well we were doing. We didn't care how much money we were winning or losing since you always ante up D1000.
So the story of the fun last night ends with Poker. I think the developers were very wise to introduce such a social game into GVO. However, poker is also the way to get around the Real Money - Dugat trading block for Trial players.
The wayback from Stockholm was filled with frightful peril on multiple occasions, but that's pretty boring as we just ran away. 1 Galliote & 1 Trading Caravel are not enough against 2 Flutes, 2 Pinnesses, or 2 Carracks.
Sorry for the length of this post.
Well, to give Softstar the benefits of the doubt, I'd say it'd be due to miscoordination within the organization. If otherwise, the wrath of the fans is something to behold.
The needs appear. So you rose to the occasion. And most people perform better when they are pushed. :P
And yes, you should be sorry. You make me so envy. But since you told me a story, I'll forgive you anyway. :P
Yay!
Do you know that in the credits for GVO (the credits movie) that at the end it lists 3 companies for KOEI?
TIANJING KOEI Software Co, Ltd.
BEIJING KOEI Software CO, Ltd
KOEI CANADA Inc.
I had completely forgotten about this bit from months ago (I don't really listen to the awesome orchestrated music of the Credits video much).
Hee... hee... I'm getting a new comp, hopefully it'll be in time for the beta. Going to download all the necessary stuff first. :D
Are the companies listed all involved in the making of GVO or are they just a list of selected Koei children company? (Koei got more than that three so maybe the list is outdated already.)
It's at the very end of the Credits video near the Thank You list.
I'm not sure why they are thanking those three companies.
They even thanked me! :D
Well sort of, they thanked all beta test players. ^_^;
